Teaching activityDoctoral Course (4.5 credits)Principles of nucleic acid structure/Nukleinsyrors struktur
The course addresses the relation between structure and function in nucleic acid molecules, going from general structural details of nucleic acid molecules to higher-order nucleic acid structures, such as DNA super-helix; from ion interactions to protein-nucleic acid recognition; from small RNA interfering to chromatin. After the course, the participants will be able to describe and to visualize nucleic acid structures, to apply principles regulating nucleic acid structures, to explain the relation between structure and function in nucleic acid molecules and to evaluate critically experiments used to provide RNA or DNA structural information. Course consist in 14 meetings of 3 hours each at NOVUM building (Huddinge) and take place every two years.. Invited speakers(2010): Prof. Eric Westhof (CNRS, University of Strasbough); Prof. Jens Woehnert (Goethe University, Frankfurt). Invited speakers(2012): Prof. Frédéric Allain (ETH, Zürich); Prof. David Lilley (University of Dundee); Prof. Maria Selmar (University of Uppsala). Next course will be from 23 January to 23 February 2012 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
